The purpose of this professional study is to provide participants holding Professional Leadership Certification with knowledge to create a culture of continuous learning for all participants in the areas of school safety directing attention of potential threats and proactive measures to de-escalate tension and prevent conflicts through emotional intelligence, empathy, active listening, and self-awareness. This study completely addresses Standard 3 Managerial and Operational Leadership, Alabama Standards for Instructional Leaders. This study will fully align to the 9 Alabama Professional Learning Standards. Participants will engage in face-to-face and/or online knowledge and content sessions and apply information learned in collaborative meetings with colleagues, online coaching, and reflections. All educators who hold Professional Leadership Certification are required to complete all Phase I, Phase II, Phase III, and activities. Upon successfully completing this professional study, participants holding Professional Leadership Certification will earn 1 PLU and 30 APLDS hours.

Participants will engage in face-to-face and/or online knowledge and content sessions and apply information learned in collaborative meetings with colleagues, online coaching, and reflections. All educators who hold Professional Leadership Certification are required to complete all Phase I, Phase II, Phase III, and activities. Participants may engage in this professional study at no cost. The locations of the two required face-to-face sessions will be in north, central, and southern regional areas of the state.

Wayfinding To Better School Safety is presented to help identify strategies and tools that help students, staff, and visitors navigate the school quickly and effectively. These concepts become vital in the event of an emergency. The goal is to ensure that everyone can find their way to safety in a calm and organized manner.

Youth Mental Health - A Path to Support is an introductory look into how the focus of mental health has changed over the recent years and how it has effected school aged children. We begin to explore some of the common diagnosis associated with school aged children as well as what educators can to to assist children who may be experiencing some type of mental or emotional challenge. The course also explores common warning signs to be aware of and the importance of positive communication and connectivity with school aged children.
